What makes you Indians so technically sound?

I am an American and very pleased to declare Indians are technically brilliant, a very different opinion from those of my fellow citizens who can be extremely racist - especially to those over the line on telephones. It's not mainly about them stealing American jobs than racist stereotypes - even I had slight difficulty the first time I had to work with an Indian web designer in understanding his thick accent, but he had done a fantastic job and paid such attention to every minute detail which I am sure no other race would have done - that too for $75 it was a real treasure find for me. No wonder despite severe criticism, American corporations won't cut down on outsourcing in India - but the racism will sadly, continue.

I just came here to ask what makes you Indians so technically sound. I understand you have a large number of technology graduates. I did Computer majors in University and Indians were the pick of the litter really. What do you think are your cultural traits? Bye.

It is the base really. Elementary school education in India still isn't dependent on gadgets or other novel ideas, but emphasises solely on books. Students are expected to learn the printed words. It is sort of hammered into their minds. So their fundamentals are pretty strong. Building on strong fundamentals is relatively easy. I might not have explained it as well as I would have wanted or you had desired. I would suggest you read the book "The Inscrutable Americans" by Anurag Mathur (Rupa Publishers). It will give you a better insight.

The point is that the Indian Education system, is quite rigid and if one needs to overcome the inherent flaws in the system, one needs to improvise.
Remember, necessity is the mother of all inventions.

One becomes so used to overcoming such structural obstacles, that applying logic and thinking out-of-the-box becomes the only way to survive. Tougher the challenge, greater is the determination to work harder because one realizes that one has very limited resources to succeed.

Well it is the logical ability which has developed in our race and has been passed on to us by our ancestors who had a golden situation which has made us technically so sound even though we might not be living in such a technological age u are living in (digital divide)

To be fair, not all Indians are technically, sound. You only come across, the one, who come to your country. In fact very few percentage get to study higher education. We are agriculture oriented country, who are developing in technology, in recent times.. Till, around 70% of our population, is Agriculture based.

meh...i hate any1 who works @ a call centre...its too depressing

but yea the techies are gr8...as long as u give them something specific to do...innovation is an absolute zero because of the fked up education system...

btw...the WHOLE of india tries to get into these universities...i remember my friends working their asses off from 9th grade to get into these colleges... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Institutes_of_Technology ...

It's probably due to genetics and the community.

A semi-literate Indian is capable of serving a huge complex network of food delivery and laundry service with very good accuracy.

So I doubt that it's due schooling, or maybe it's due to the lack of schooling itself that cause it to be so efficient.

Anyway. Clarke put an Indian named Chandra as the designer of the HAL 9000, probably as a recognition of the Indian people's capability on technical things.
