Here are some things she brought that she needed and used a LOT:
-Rain coat
-Hiking boots
-Extra shoes and socks
-Good trekking backpack
-COMFORTABLE pants
-Heavy, warm jacket
-Hats
-Gloves
-Underarmor
-Hygenic on-the-go things (deoderant, soap, etc)
-Camera
-Extra batteries
-Extra back up money
-Lightweight traveling carriers
And a few other things.
-Ice packs

a battery powered fan cuz its really hot
short clothes like capris,short sleeved shirts,etc..
the electricity usually runs out so bring something to entertain u
ex:ds,mp3,ipod,etc..

you are coming in summer which will be very hot all over india except for hill station. don't carry any woolen clothes,.cotton dresses are the best in this season. welcome toi india you will be getting every thing else including indian hospitality.come to the beautiful india

Its terribly hot during the month of April, May, June.
Hill Stations and beach would be fun.
Carry a cam to store memories.
Everything else is available here.
Have your plans where and when and how to visit so you dont waste time searching. If you have anyone known here then am sure you would have nice time.
Places you can give a shot: Himalayas, western ghats, Rajasthan palaces, Kerala back waters....
and others as per your plans.

Camera with cable and accessories like battery charger, etc., a laptop to transfer the pictures and a Visa credit / debit card and some cash.
Everything is available in India. It will be very hot in most parts of the country and cool in hill stations like Darjeeling, Gangtok, etc. Have fun.

You don't say if you are backpacking/trekking or package holiday, well I'll assume it's backpacking, contact the foreign travel site, before you go, you'll know what areas (if any) to avoid, be on your guard, at all times, if you are going off the beaten track, make sure you hire a local guide. Be prepared medically, ask your doc for inoculations for India, incidentally, I don't know if you are Indian yourself, but if you are, please don't make the mistake that some do, in that they think that because they are native to India (or were at some stage before), they are immune of all diseases. Finally have a good holiday.

If you are going to bring cellphone check what bands it uses. In India GSM 900/1800 band is used.

I think other than that everything else is mentioned by others.
