I would say 40 years and it will be a major developed country. But this question has so many variables, like conflict with Pakistan, economic trends, etc.

There are a number of obstacles to that. First, we have overwhelming poverty and population. To add to this, you have corruption, central leadership that has too many bickering components. Brain drain.
The only factor that is powering the development is economic growth. Unfortunately, the services seem to grow more than the industry. We need real industrial growth for sustainable development.
Having said that, a lot depends on what you would call developed. Big countries like the US themselves are behind in several indices. They have impoverished populations and ghettoes too.
To sum up, I think given the size of our country, we will always lag behind in development indices, health care delivery, literacy, employment and so on. However, standards of living will improve... mostly of the middle class. We have the potential to become economic superpower which in fact might occur in a couple of decades. We need to back this with strong leadership and development of infrastructure. We need to modernize the agriculture and carry the urban development into rural areas.
