Alcohol based hand rub. Use it all the time. Perfect for travelling anywhere abroad. Oh, and maintain a good standard of personal hygiene throughout the trip. Be prepared though - it's more likely to happen than not. Take rehydration solution, a suitable sized cup to make the rehydration solution in and Imodium. Take baby wipes with you - much better for wiping your bum than scratchy toilet paper that begins to sting after your seventh visit to the loo.
Don't forget to use bottled water when cleaning your teeth.
Eat in restaurants - don't buy dodgy stuff from the streets. |

Don't experiment with Indian spiced food if you've not tried it before. Stick to Continental food. Eat in good restaurants, they cater for foreigners and having salads there won't be a problem. |

If you have the time try to cook yourself. Use bottled water at all times. The food isn't bad... just find a good place to eat. You should ask the locals or put up a question on Yahoo Answers.
Funny, you say avoid salads, that's what I ate every morning along with bread and cheese for seven days. |

Be very carful with the mixed fryed rice, most of the time the prawns can be off,and the butter if it's open and soft give it a miss.
Some time the beer can be off too if you get a flat beer knock it back and ask for another one.(knock it back-i don't mean drink it all in one go-i mean send it back ask for a fresh one)
the beer come's in bottle's not pulled out of a draft.
good luck.any food cooked in front of you is good.even spicey food is good. |

Use anti-bacterial handwash and the waterless anti-bac solution you can buy to rub on your hands. |

I avoided all of the above, and only ate veggie, and still ended up with a stomach upset that lasted 2 months after I'd returned (I was only there 2 weeks!!). Lost a couple of stone though. The Indian diet, worked for me!!!!
Best of luck (and make sure you take rehydration salts, luckily for me the owner of the guesthouse where we were staying went to the local chemists for me, as I was unable to leave the bathroom...) |

Fenugreek is the wonder medicine here, apart from all the readers useful suggestions. As one member says, be sure to wash your hands always before and after your lunch.
Take Fenugreek as whole and have some water to down it. When taken empty stomach everymorning, it works as a perfect medicine for whatever food you in take. You can eat in decent hotels preferably vegetarian.
Go on have salads, fruits and ice creams. Its only the oil based foods, you should be beware about. HOpe this helps you. |

go to the chemist and get sodium tablets (i think been awhile since i was in scouts they will know or camping stores) but any way they can give you stuff to help coat your stomach or mix with water...but really its how sensitive your stomach is...
milk before rich food lines the stomach...but remember all those curries were invented cause they don't have refrigeration and the meat rots so its about picking the right place to eat...if its in a cheaper part of town it may be authentic but well yeah...happy holiday. |
