When you see a Western lady in a sari or other Indian clothes, what do you think?

Western women look better in salwar kameez than in sari. Its also more comfortable and a lot of women in India who used to wear only saris at one time are now wearing salwar kameez. The fashion varies but if you look up some Indian magazines you could find out whats the latest. Ready to wear outfits are available anywhere in India. Size could be a problem. My wife who takes a size 14 in America has to find the large or extra large size in India and thats not always available.

Speaking as a Western lady who wears saris and salwar kameez in Canada, I think they look smashing! I have blonde hair and blue eyes and I get a lot of attention in India because not only do I wear Indian clothes, I wear really expensive and fashionable clothes! People stare at me a lot and are usually very happy. Indian people in Canada are usually either surprised and happy to see me in Indian clothes and Canadians go nuts over the Indian clothes. I dressed my 2 year old son in a sequined kurta for church and everyone commented how adorable and beautiful it was.

How do Indian girls look in Western clothes? It depends on how fashionable they are. My husband's sister-in-law had beautiful suits and saris in India but wore rags in England. She looked terrible, why she had to wear sweats and jeans everyhwere. Not a good look for a traditional looking Indian.

Another pet peeve, Indians in Canada who wear ugly, cheap suits. No wonder they get a bad name! Would it hurt to dress up a bit?

Well I don't think western women look so odd in salwaar kameez because it's not all that unlike western clothes....I have seen some Western women look rather strange in a saree but last time i was in India i saw a blonde girl wearing a saree and i must say it looked really great on her, didn't make her look any less western though lol...well i am not indian at all but sometimes when i wore indian clothes in India i was mistaken for being Indian, Maybe because i have dark hair and some features similar to Indian, i don't know.

Anyways if you like to wear them then wear them, Many Indian girls wear Western clothes so why can't Western women wear Indian clothes.

Since most of India is very warm/hot year round I think it is pretty stupid wearing 5-6 yards of material wrapped around your body. I do not consider it to be hygienic.

There is no way to look less Western becuase of skin color and features. Wester lady in an Indian dress loks so funny to me in sari or any other indian attire. I would suggest you wear jeans-top or knee length skirt only.
