If you are not too keen on a fancy or modern accommodation, you can check out the OLD Woodlands hotel, located next to the Woodlands movie theater, in Royapettah. Specify the place exactly as above, so that they do not take you to the newer vastly more expensive NEW Woodlands in Mylapore.
Old Woodlands has both rooms with A/C and non A/C and are priced reasonably and is located in a sprawling tree covered expanse of land, free of city noise and dust. It is close to Mount Road and many good restaurants such as Saravana Bhavan and the famed Ponnuswamy Chettinad Hotel of Chennai.
