slumdog millionaire was filmed in the slums of mumbai- the commercial capital of india .it is also the capital of of the western indian state MAHARASHTRA. and Punjab lies in the northern part of india.the conditions are very much different from punjab in mumbai..
punjab is known for its rich wheat fields and fertile land while maharashtra is known for its industry and commerce. the population density in mumbai is very much greater than that of punjab..so slums are there...the main language of maharashtra is marathi while that of punjab is punjabi.. |

The movie was filmed in Mumbai and also in Agra. I think they had dharavi and slums nearby it in western mumbai, as scene are near the large water pipe.
About Punjab, you will find only wheat field, and well cultivated lands, and perhaps no slum as shown in film. |

It was shot in Dharavi, Mumbai... Dharavi has the biggest slum area in whole of Asia! This place is far different from other cities in India so it has no similarities with Punjab or any other state. As for Punjab, I don't think there are any slums! |

Slumdog Millionaire was shot in Mumbai (Bombay) and Agra.
The slum shown was Dharavi (perhaps the largest slum in the world). Mumbai being the largest city in India, attracts a lot of poor villagers with big dreams. The other areas shown were Taj Mahal in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, CST (previously called Victoria Terminus), one of the busiest railway stations in the world, made more famous by the Pakistani terrorists shooting innocent passengers at random on 26/11/2008.
The song and dance sequence was perhaps shot at midnight or the wee hours of the morning.
Punjab is a rich agricultural state and the density of population in Punjab can not be compared with that of a city like Mumbai. |

most people have already answered the question.
Mumbai (previously Bombay) is in the south of India whereas the Punjab is in the North and is predominantly a Sikh country and borders onto Pakistan and close to the Himalayan mountain range so therefore can be cooler in winter whereas Mumbai is closer to the equator so therefore much hotter. North Indians are usually lighter in colour than Southern Indians. |
