Hyderabad - is the capital city of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. With approximately 6.1 million people (61lakh), it is India's 6th largest metropolis and the 41st largest metropolitan area in the world. Hyderabad has a twin city named Secunderabad which was formed when the British residency of the erstwhile princely state of Hyderabad had set up a military base near Hyderabad. Hyderabad is known for its rich history, culture and architecture representing its unique characteristic of a meeting point for North and South India, and its multi-lingual culture, both geographically and culturally. Hyderabad has always been a place where Hindus and Muslims have co-existed peacefully for centuries.
The dialect spoken in Hyderabad and the surrounding areas of Telangana is distinct from the dialect of coastal Andhra region. Hyderabad and the rest of Telangana have a unique culture of their own in comparison to the coastal and Rayalseema regions of Andhra Pradesh. The Telegu spoke here has assimilated lot of Urdu words into it. And the Urdu spoken here is also unique with some Marathi words and unique Hyderabad accent giving rise to a dialect sometimes called as Hyderabadi Hindi
Hyderabad is also one of the most developed cities in the country, and is the emerging IT and biotech hub of India. Hyderabad and Secunderabad are twin cities, separated by the Hussain Sagar (bound by the 'Tank Bund'), an artificial lake made during the time of Ibrahim Qutb Shah in 1562. The Charminar (Urdu: "Four Minars") monument, built in the center of Hyderabad by Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah in 1591, is a commemoration of the eradication of a plague in the region. |

capital of Andhra Pradesh state, in southern India. It is located on the Deccan Plateau and Mūsi River.
HyderÄbÄd was founded by the Quhb ShÄhi sultans ofGolconda, under whom the kingdom of Golconda attained a position of importance second only to thatof the Mughal Empire in the north. The old fortress town of Golconda had proved inadequate as the kingdom's capital, and so about 1591 Muhammad QulÄ« Quhb ShÄhi, the fifth of the Quhb ShÄhis, built a new city called HyderÄbÄd on the east bank of the MÅ«si River, a few miles from old Golconda. The ChÄrmÄ«nÄr, a grand architectural composition in Indo-Saracenic style with open arches and with four minarets, is regarded as the supreme achievement of the Quá¹b ShÄhÄ« period. It formed the centrepiece around which the city was planned. The Mecca Mosque, which was built later, can accommodate 10,000 people. HyderÄbÄd was known for its beauty and affluence, but this glory lasted only as long as the Quhb ShÄhÄ«s, for the Mughals conquered HyderÄbÄd in 1685. The Mughal occupation resulted in plunder and destruction and was followed by the intervention of European powers in Indian affairs. In 1724 Ä€saf JÄh NizÄm-ul-Mulk, the Mughal viceroy in the Deccan, declared independence. This Deccan kingdom, with HyderÄbÄd as its capital, came to be known as HyderÄbÄd. The Ä€saf JÄhÄ«s, during the 19th century, started to rebuild, expanding to the north of the old city across the MÅ«si. Farther north, SecunderÄbÄd grew as a British cantonment, connected to HyderÄbÄdby a mile-long bund (embankment) on the Husain SÄgar Lake. The bund serves as a promenade and is the pride of the city. Many new structures, reflecting a beautiful blend of Hindu and Muslim styles, were added.
Also note,
also spelled HaydarÄbÄd city, district, and division, Sind Province, Pakistan.
The city, administrative headquarters of the district, lies on the most northerly hill of the Ganjo Takkar ridge, just east of the Indus River. The third largest city in Pakistan, it is a communications centre, connected by rail with PeshÄwar and KarÄchi and with Indian railways via the border towns of KhokhropÄr and Munabao.
Founded in 1768 on the site of the ancient town of NÄ«rÅ«n-Kot by GhulÄm ShÄh KalhÅrÄ, the saintly ruler of Sind, it was named after the prophet Muhammad's son-in-law, AlÄ«, also known as haydar. It remained the capital of Sind under the TÄlpur rulers, who succeeded the KalhÅrÄs, till 1843 when, after the nearby battles of MiÄni and Dabo, it surrendered to the British and the capital was transferred to KarÄchi. |
