By all means, travel when it is not so very hot! To me, this means Oct-November to March-April. Travel can otherwise be a fairly miserable affair.

India Travel is a pleasure during the cooler months between October and March. By then the heat of the summer is gone and tourism becomes pleasurable. Rajasthan's dry and arid land is more bearable in the winter months. Around this time, however, the usually wet North-East, goes dry and is easier to travel to. The south, of course, is fascinating with the rain on the beaches.

It is in these six months that the country is in a celebratory mood and India Travel becomes more festive. Most of India's well-known festivals take place around this time. There is Dussehra with fireworks and drama in the North while in the East, the Durga Puja is celebrated to depict the conquest of good over evil. Three weeks after Dussehra is Diwali, the festival of light, and there are a lot of lamps and firecrackers. In March is the colourful festival of Holi when there are friendly fights with colored water and colored powder. All Indian festivals are celebrated with lots of sweets.

In addition to these major festivals, there are a number of local festivals like the Rathyatra or the Chariot festival in Orissa, the harvest festivals in most parts of India, dance festivals at heritage sites, and a host of others held towards the end of the year. The largest camel fair is held in Rajasthan's Pushkar in November while Goa has its own version of the Mardi Gras in February which you can enjoy on your India Travel. Then there is Id, Easter, Christmas and so many more festivals, each celebrated in totally Indian fashion.

The months of March to May are hot and humid in most parts of the country and are unbearable for most Westerners. This is the time to take off to the hills and see another facet of the fascinating country called India. March to May and September and November are months for trekking in the Himalayas. So, if you have plans to do some serious mountain climbing or trekking or even take part in some adventure sports, plan your India Travel around this time.

Well you have been told well...its true that you will be caught up in th monsoon mess during the period mentioned by you...
If you intend to do shopping for you wedding..i would suggest you look at Delhi as an option that too in August...not only will you get a good bargain for you trousseau but also the best of designer outfits...Karol Bagh and chandini chowk a haven for wedding shoppers....

Yes what you have been told is true end of July is probably not the best time to travel!! However i went to India last February and it was amazing i didn't go very south just a bit more south than Delhi but the weather was amazing it was warm like our summers here but the sun wasn't scorching and it rained for a couple of days but i think its good to experience the rain out there its amazing (which sounds stupid but true)!!! I only went for 10 days but managed to come back with sunburn and it was only February!! But i recommend going between December and March but not too late in March as it starts to get warmer and all the mosquitoes come out!! Thats another benefit of going in February there are no mosquitoes anywhere i came back with no bites!! Hope this helps and hope you have a great time in India its an amazing beautiful country and i plan to go back very soon its addictive!!!

Traveling to India is the best during or between October and March. The heat of the summer has gone.
