I think that the main factor that you should check while deciding the hotel is kid friendliness.
The other two points of consideration that you had were (a) close to Airport and (b) shopping area. Don't give too high a priority to them - since Taxi Transportation in Mumbai is quite good, and pay by the meter - so you won't get duped.
so check the below link. It lists the hotels near both Domestic and International Airport. It has photos, and the Tariff page has the Lodging costs listed. This should help you get something per your requirements and budget.

Depends on your budget....there good hotels for as low as $25 a night to may be upto $1000 a nite....Mumbai being a commercial hub and a tourist destination most of the hotels are good and provides a reasonable hospitality. I think if you should be able to get a good deal for around $65-$100 a night around Andheri, Santacruz they are close to Airport and shopping centers.
