In my opinion it is not other then Chandigarh, capital of the state of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is one of the most modern cities in India. Chandigarh, the first planned modern city of independent India was designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. The city is divided into 47 numbered sectors. It has well-laid roads lined with rows of trees and beautifully planned buildings. Visitors that are usually exoecting more of the meandering sprawls and historic skylines as with the most old Indian towns and cities are surprised to see the well planned layout of Chandigarh and its sleek buildings. This is because that the dity is almost 50 years old considering the age of the other cities present in India this city is an infant, so as to speak. The city comprises of a unique combination of old world and new modern world. As the city comprises of the new ultra mordern shopping complexes on one hand the city also have the road side vendors providing the ceapest closthes and the best bargains any one can possibly find.

Ironically, this new Indian city was born out of the partition of the country. A new capital city for the State of Punjab was required and Chandigarh was created to serve this purpose. This city symbolises the faith and confidence that the resurgent republic had.

Chandigarh Location: Located in the northern parts of India and is the capital of two sates namely Haryana and Punjab.
Rainfall in Chandigarh: 111.4 cm (July to August)
Climate of Chandigarh: Summer: 38 °C - 20 °C
Winter: 25 °C - 6 °C
Best Time to Visit: October to April
How To Reach Chandigarh:
By Air: Chandigarh is connected to Delhi (daily) and Amritsar (bi-weekly) by flights of Indian Airlines. There is also a weekly flight to Leh from Chandigarh. Jet Airways has daily flights to Chandigarh from Delhi. The airport is 11 km away from the main city.
By Rail: The railway station is 7 km away from the city center. It is well connected to the major cities of India like Delhi (238 km), Bikaner (575 km), and Jodhpur (827 km).
By Road: Chandigarh is well connected by road to almost every small and big town in northern India. Frequent buses ply from Chandigarh to Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, and even Rajasthan. One has a varied choice that includes luxury buses, ordinary buses and taxis, all of which are readily available.
Tourist Attractions: Capital Complex, Sector 17 Shopping Area and City Center, Leisure Valley, The Rock Garden, Sukhna Lake, Temple of Goddess Chandi.

but if you are looking a place for holiday this would not be it
you can visit south india for its beauty for eg kerala

something about mumbai
Mumbai (IPA:/'mumbÉ™i/ (help·info),Marathi: मà¥à¤‚बई), formerly known as Bombay, is the capital of the state of Maharashtra, and the most populous city of India, with an estimated population of about 13 million (as of 2006)[1]. Mumbai is located on Salsette Island, off the west coast of Maharashtra. Along with its neighbouring suburbs, it forms the world's fifth most populous metropolitan area with a population of about 20 million. The city has a deep natural harbour and the port handles over half of India's passenger traffic and a significant amount of cargo.[2]

Mumbai is the commercial and entertainment capital of India, and houses important financial institutions, such as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) and the corporate headquarters of many Indian companies. Mumbai has attracted migrants from all over India because of the immense business opportunities, and the relatively high standard of living, making the city a potpourri of various communities and cultures. The city is home to India's Hindi film and television industry, known as Bollywood. Mumbai is also one of the rare cities to accommodate a national park, the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, within its city limits.

As per my view, U just try, Hyderabad, within 2 days u will be addicted to hyderabad, in andhra pradesh,, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh.

here , it is very nice, cool, and the life style is not so costly,if u want to have a rich life style, u can try bangalore,or other wise,it will better to live in hyderabad,

And if u want to have cool environment, u can try delhi,

and if u love beaches, u can try chennai, of vishakapatnam( situate in Andhra Pradesh ).

This is a very relative question. So I can give you a relative answer. It depends where you want to live / stay. If you want to live in a big metropolitan city with a more or less good weather I would say Bangalore, or Hyderabad or even Pune. But these cities can be somewhat costly. Delhi has got extreme weather, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai do not generally have good weather. But cost of living in Calcutta is relatively less.Basically if you can adjust properly to a particular place wherever it is that will be the best place for you to live in ...in India.
If you are not interested in city life and want to live in a peaceful and pristine environment you can live in the northern states like in Uttaranchal or U.P. say for instance in Hardwar or Dharmashala.
