Which is the closest hill station to mumbai and how do i get there?
matheran. its around 1 and 1/2 hr till neral by fast train(central railway), then 10 min from neral to dasturi by cab plus 15 min walk or horse ride till matheran. i advice u not to take a mini train from neral to matheran coz it will take 2 hrs+. but its gud for 1st timers.
if u r a nature lover( and rainy season lover too), its a perfect getaway from mumbai pollution atleast,as matheran is a pollution free zone, that means no vehicles.

You would can to go to Mahabeleshwar, Lonaval/Khandala, Pune & Matheran.I advice you to either visit Mahabeleshwar or Lonaval/Khandala,the climate ther is much more pleasant and u would enjoy very much if like me you too love nature........you can easily get there by boarding a bus or hiring a jeep.

Matheran. By car, but since Matheran is the only place in Asia with no cars.. so you gotta park your car at the foothill and take a tram or a horse or walk it up the hill.
Another one is Lonavala.. you can go there by train,bus,car.

you can go their by Bus or Car. It is on the way to Pune, and hence you can take the Express highway. A lotof Luxury busses leave from Dadar (under the flyover near the Station, on the east side), and they are cheap. So you can use them for reaching there. The most preferred one is NEETA travels ;).
