There are tons of different festivals in India.
Mainly
Diwali,
Dasshera (Navratree or Durga pooja ..celebrated by diff names in diff areas in India)
Holi
Hindu new year
The days others mentioned - Independence day, Republic day and Gandhi Jayanti are more like Government HOLIDAYS , not really festivals.
Apart from these, Eid and Christmas are also celebrated on large scale.
Hindu (Majority), Muslim, Sikh, Christians and Buddhists are the main religions in India and each of their festivals are celebrated in India. |

India 'celebrates' four of them: Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti, and Children's Day. The others, like Teacher's Day and Mother's Day, are more on the scale of observances. |
