In the world of birds, the male is the one who has to attract a mate, so he is the one with the bright, colorful plumage. The hen of most species is drab by comparison; this helps when she is sitting on her nest, so that she is not easily spotted by predators.

I think you'll find its often the other way around, especially in the bird world. The males are more brightly coloured to a: attract a potential mate and b: for peacocks it is also a defensive mechanism, ever notice that a peacocks tail looks like it has big eyes in it. This is used to attempt to scare off any would be attackers of his little group.

Who said females dominate in beauty? In most animal species, the male is always the handsome, showy one, because he has to attract the females. Every male attempts to win the biggest piece of the lovemaking pie to propagate his genes down the line.
I think the only species where the female is more good-looking is humans.
