Bombay (now called Mumbai since 1996) is not the capital of India.
It is capital of the State of Maharashtra in India. The name Mumbai is derived from the name of the Hindu goddess Mumbadevi. Although the Portuguese and British called it Bombay from the 16th / 17th century, the local people called it Mumbai. |

The city was earlier called Bombay. The name was changed by an act of the Indian parliament in 1997. The reason for this change was that in two of the local languages, Marathi and Gujarati, the city has long been called Mumbai. It is believed that the name comes from the name of one of the old Koli goddesses, Mumba Devi, a temple to whom now stands in Bhuleshwar. |

In 1996, the city was renamed Mumbai by the Shiv Sena government of Maharashtra, in keeping with their policy of renaming colonial institutions after historic local names. |

The capital and train station were renamed to a more Indian name, I think to take back ownership of them. You have to remember it was the British who originally named the city and not India itself. It's quite common for former African colonies to do this also. |

It was a political / nationalistic move, to rid the city name of its British influence..
I have no idea how that relates to the Mighty Ducks |
