Why do Indian people ask for help in things they could do themselves?

For example, why would they ask if anyone is travelling to India to send some documents/packages, rather than simply using mail service? Of course this could save them some money, but i dont think its worth the trouble of asking somebody...

Please read the question first! I did not ask whether i have a right to generalize.

there is no trouble in asking someone. Indians do ask people to carry stuff for them and when they themselves travel they carry stuff for someone else. it is just a way of helping each other which americans wont do, and will not understand also. A mail can only carry a letter,.but not other stauuf. or if i send a letter to usa it will take about ten days to deliver, but if i ask some to carry it, it will be delivered in day or two. is it not faster. for for us , Indians, it is not a big favour. we just like doing things for each other.

There are various reasons for that. Firstly people would like to
send important documents, precious/valuable items etc. through some one known, so that the document/parcel will be safely received by the concerned person. Secondly it will have more
personal touch if these items are sent through friends/relatives.

The mail thing is actually understandable. In some countries the mail systems are an absolute joke.

Dear

This is doing not only Indians. I dont know from which country, you are saying this. Anyhow, I will tell from my experience,

While I was in Saudi Arabia, even there is a postal service, it was not good. We will lose even the registered mails too, if we post from there. And second thing is the time taking for delivery, it will be too late starting from 8 - 15 days. If we send a packet with our friend in the native, it will reach safely and at least in 3-4 days (if delivery is far from the friends native place).

My boss was a us native, and he has a friend in India. He had given one packet to me to handover that person, while my vacation trip to India. Many other nationalities are also doing the same... not only Indians... And be noted that it is not only to save a little of money, but to reach the packet/mail safely and timely to the addressee...

Thx
