India is a big country with vast population.
It is difficult to develop the whole nation so fast.
The rate of development is slow because there is corruption.
Rich people will say India is developing but look at the extreme poor they hardly have clothes on their body they are not enjoying any luxuries from the nation.
As far as rich people are making money in the nation they are happy with it.
India will develop but may be by 2020 but cannot be the supreme power because by that time most of the developing countries might have developed. |

Because the divide between haves and have nots is widening? I couldn't see why the government didn't stop the bt seed sellers in Vidarbha region which led to the cascading effect of massive numbers of suicides.
What is the problem with northern states? Why couldn't the governments help improve family planning(I read this bit in Frontline's article about our population in its recent issue) or improve access to education? They are migrating in masses to the southern states for jobs. Thus leaving more chances for greedy people to buy their lands. |

Although India tasted success in sectors such as urban development, industrial development, defense management etc it has come at the expense of the basic sectors. We have tried to blindly copy the western models of development instead of sticking on to the Gandhian concept of self-sufficient villages. Hence, wrong priorities have severely paralyzed India’s development process.
India being a largely agricultural nation the top most priority should be progressive farming. The very next priority should be education because without education no nation can progress. However education comes only after the creation of a solid foundation on agriculture. Once food supply and education are ensured gainful employment opportunities can be created and industrial progress will follow. This will gradually lead to mechanization and scientific and technological advancements.
Policy formulation is the first stage of development process. Policies are thoroughly studied and discussed before they are implemented. This helps in creating an awareness of the strengths and drawbacks of the policies.
the second stage of development is planning. Planning is categorized into long term plans, mid term plans and short term plans. Health for all, Home for all, education for all are all long term plans. The five year plans come under mid-term plans.
The third most important stage of development is called programming stage. These programmes could be at the national, regional or local level. Another characteristic of the programe is their specificity regarding target group and area. The overall objectives of development programmes are the following.
Poverty alleviation is the first aim of development programmes. Almost one third of Indian citizens are still below the poverty line. Poverty can be removed only through several radical steps. Over the years India has attained self sufficiency in food production. But the poor have no purchasing power to buy the food. So income generation is another major objective of development programmes. Income generation is possible if only more employment opportunity is created. This calls for education and better infrastructure facilities. The development programmes are aimed at raising the standard of living of the people. The standard of living being good for a minority is not a sign of sustainable and balanced development. The planners and policy makers must see that development is not restricted to certain regions or classes alone. |

Many feel that the India growth story is strong and our overall macro economic environment is very positive and this is the reason for the FII are pouring their money here. To a certain extent this is true. But seeing more closely we feel that this low liquidity that we explained before could be the major reason for the FII to come to India. The reason in very simple because of this low liquidity, the FIIs are able to influence the market how they want and easy make profits.
Now the question comes why India and not any other developing nation. As it is seen there is a lot of capital flowing to developing nations but a 20% of total FII come to India. Most of these developing countries have liquidity level similar or lower than India. These FIIs could easily influence these other countries too. Given that why India?
In addition to reason that they can influence the market, there are many factors in India that add to their favor. Things like our strong GDP growth, our companies that show global standards, the long-term outlook on the dollar and interest rates in the US. Out of all these there is one big advantage, which India has that other developing nations lack that is our world-class financial system. Indian capital markets are technologically comparable to any advanced market. We have a strong banking system, which cater to our markets. We have all the modern financial instruments like derivatives, commodity derivatives, stable forex market etc.
To sum it up, we have a technologically and functionally advanced financial system, which is reliable and safe in addition to a good macro economic environment, which could be influenced by FIIs. What more would the FIIs as for. Even thought we have our big Indian growth story the main reason, which drives the FIIs to India, is their ability to influence Indian markets, as they want.

Too much concentration on building an IT industry, nukes, and fighting Pakistan for Kashmir, and IT, and not enough concentration on universally available water, power, sanitation, transport, telecommunications, education, and public health.
Also, possibly a food supply so heavily dependant on the weather can't help much either. |
