your question is quite wrong i guess....because its not the filthiest its the purest form...Ganges has been scientifically tested and proved to have the purest water .....research says that his is because of Ganges's depth ...because it has a minimum depth of 40 feet and goes till 100-200 ft there fore...the impure water goes and settles down deep deep inside and the pure water is up...moreover it flows through a large area so it s dirt and filth particles settle deep down...But one of the fact you gave is acceptable....its India's holiest.... |

Flithy is too harsh a word to use for a holy river first of all. I have never been there... but u have to learn to respect such believes even if u dont believe in it. Then coming to ur question..... as told there r so many bodies cermated here everyday.... that makes it holier. U neeed a very deep compassion to understand the feelings attached to this.
Well like said abt Yamuna.... a sewage is much different from wat is done in Ganges. Such things are done by people with very less ethics or have no concern of environment. But all of u can indiviually stop such things. |

you may think the ganges are filthy because they cremate thousands of bodies daily. but that's also the reason why it's a holy destination. many devout hindus pilgrimage to varanasi to die. when i went, it seemed dirty at first, but i thought it was a beautiful town. |

No, India's Holiest river the Ganges is not the filthiest river of India.
But, of course, it is true that the Holy Ganges is polluted and is being polluted daily.
The reason is not hard to find, the Ganges flows thro' one of the most populated stretches of the world and along its course, live millions and millions of people whose waste gets into the river.
Indian Government under Rajiv Gandhi did take up Project Clean Ganga but truth is that the Ganges remains polluted. |
