India is very well known throughout the world for many reasons, including because of it's past, it's people, what's happening in India today, and the many people that visit India every year. At about 1 billion people, India is second only to China in population. India's rich and complex history and culture go back thousands of years and tell of many glorious empires. Hinduism and Buddhism are two living world religions that began in India. India is the most populous democracy in the world today and is emerging as an economic world leader. India is also emerging as a leader in the entertainment industry with the port city of Mumbai on India's western coast, formerly known as Bombay, is home to "Bollywood", a spinoff of Hollywood in the United States. Thousands upon thousands of tourists visit India annually, and tell the rest of the world about India's many famous places like the Taj Mahal, the Himalayan Mountains, the Ganges River, the exotic flora and fauna, and the many great cities and coastal resorts. And that is why India is so famous.

The culture of India is one of the oldest and unique. In India, there is amazing cultural diversity throughout the country. The South, North, and Northeast have their own distinct cultures and almost every state has carved out its own cultural niche. There is hardly any culture in the world that is as varied and unique as India. India is a vast country, having variety of geographical features and climatic conditions. India is home to some of the most ancient civilizations.

There are lots of important monuments and palaces to see in India. Agra has the famous Taj Mahal and there are plenty of beaches in Goa and in other coastal parts of India like Kerala.

In the matter of cuisine, for instance, the North and the South are totally different. Festivals in India are characterized by color, gaiety, enthusiasm, prayers and rituals. In the realm of music, there are varieties of folk, popular, pop, and classical music. The classical tradition of music in India includes the Carnatic and the Hindustani music.

India celebratesâ€¦ all the year round, in a joyous and colorful calendar of festivals and fairs. Sacred, secular or seasonal, each of these occasions has a special spirit and vigor. These celebrations of fairs and festivals form a wondrous and joyful series of events, marking the rites of passage between birth, death and renewal. These moments are determined not by the pre-set dates of the linear calendar but by the changing luminosity of the sun as it enters the new seasons, and in the cycles spun out by the waxing and waning of the moon.

In a land of vast geographical distances and a variety of languages and customs, the spirit and color of the religious, seasonal or secular festivals underline the rich legacy of traditions that has been handed over from ages.

We have many things here which other dont have. our history, culture, the monuments. plus we are growing as an economy and we have global presence. also even at 2 am we have people on yahoo answers posting & answering questions.
