it actually has an enormous GDP, just not per capita.
there is much corruption in india, and this holds it back from progressing, and in that respect, so what if it has a british style legal system?
it is a democracy, purely because there is such a multiplicity of factions such as to leave any single grouping paralyzed from dominating.
there is still widespread acceptance of the caste system, with millions of people, even moslems, sikhs, and Christians, shakled to being untouchables, and unseeables |

it's not poor. It's just totally corrupt in regional and middle government. Within the next 15-20 years it could easily be the second or third richest economy in the world. It's been lending money to both the UK and Europe for the last couple of years! |

INterestign question,,,,
n i guess u r aware a little bit controvertial as well...
Wen britons left india in 1947, they toook with them large amounts of gold
leaving the country with not much cas or gold
at the time of partition with pakistan, Gandhi gave pakistanis Rs. 65000, ( it meant alot 61 years ago) to start their economy from scratch.
after that it has had 3 wars with pakistan, pakistan attacking india each time,
it is having to fight against terrorism for kashmir< which was called paradise on earth by britishers wen they werin india>
these are all the extra stuff where money is spent, on top of all this comes the usual running a country of more than 1 billion people
n still they are doing very well
in terms of IT
science
i think,,,,, firstly yh india is short of natural resources, but still they r managing their resources very well, feeding 1 billlion people, security , foreign affairs, n fighting war agaisnt terror, n workign equally hard on the technological front........
i dotn particularly think they r poor
n btw they rnt really facing a big recession like us
again.... they stood up against bush's idea of invading afghanistam.
they saved money there
n funnily enuf,,,we didnt |

only in parts, there are some very rich areas too, same as Africa, UK and America.
EDIT you've got to remember that lots of parts of India are westernised, they have nightclubs, and girls where the latest fashions, also the UK would hav shanty towns if it weren't for the benefit system.
WHOEVER GAVE ME A THUMBS DOWN SHOULD DO THEIR RESEARCH, AND STOP BEING SO IGNORANT. |

I don't think India is poor. I travelled the land for more than one time (I'm from Europe), and I really don't think India is poor. It doesn't comply to western standards in all areas, that's true, but in the areas where it tries to comply, maybe poverty has even increased. Don't judge India by our western standards, because nobody can, not even the Indian government themselves. |
