India is still a developing country because computer IT companies are still outsourcing to India because it is cheap. India is a major computer country and many companies such as Dell, Intel, and Convergys have corporates in India because of cheap labor.
Other than that, they do have problems in overpopulation and might have to switch to what the Chinese government has done with the one child law.
The pollution is also very bad and the religion war will not resolve.

population increase and low levels education keeps the ratio of earnings down and hence india is still developing.

A developing country has a relatively low standard of living, an undeveloped industrial base, and a moderate to low Human Development Index (HDI) score. In developing countries, there is low per capita income, widespread poverty, and low capital formation.

India is currently classified in the category of newly industrialised country. The category of newly industrialized country (NIC) is a socioeconomic classification applied to several countries around the world by political scientists and economists.
NICs are countries whose economies have not yet reached first world status but have, in a macroeconomic sense, outpaced their developing counterparts. Another characterization of NICs is that of nations undergoing rapid economic growth (usually export-oriented). Incipient or ongoing industrialization is an important indicator of a NIC. In many NICs, social upheaval can occur as primarily rural, agricultural populations migrate to the cities, where the growth of manufacturing concerns and factories can draw many thousands of laborers.

all countries are still developing. new problems are always arising and need to be solved but all of the countries that were colonised are underdeveloped or the native peoples have suffered and often live in third world conditions, with low education, low incomes, high unemployment, substandard housing and drug and alcohol problems.
what india needs is the positive benefits of the western world without the negative. equality for women is a big must! education for all! no child marriages or caste predjudices, cleaner environs, electricity for all, elimination of backsheesh ( corruption) and a government that protects all indian people.
what they don't need is wholesale alcoholism and drug addictions, multinationals ripping them off, pharmaceutical companies using them as cheap subjects for their drug trials or the materialistic approach to life.
india still loves its traditions and the west is now enjoying positive aspects from india .ie yoga, indian food, clothing styles, dance, music, religions and philosophies, ayruvedic medicine and, of course, bollywood movies! indian people will naturally balk at incorporating many crude western aspects of lifestyle ie, near naked women, easy incitement to violence and lack of religion.
a lot of what is considered "development" ends up in the bin once the negative side effects are realised. a lot of cleaning agents are now considered harmful, gm crops and foods are now said to be very bad for us and the pollution from our industrialised society is said to be a big contributor to climate change...so what is "developed"?

ravi
because it has not developed in the past

What would it do if it became developed;

None of us would like our India to go either the American or the European way;

They are today facing such challenging situations of incompetencies and dependencies; where they have to depend upon the talents knowledge and competencies of India and the likes of India only for maintaining their so called rich and power full lifestyles related to ignorence; high costs of living, working, and performing; and bullying practises.

We would rather like our India to continue to develop, change, and evolve continually; for then only its people resources would be growing in talents, competencies and skills and taking the path of continuous growth of knowledge and education of same; and evolution of qualities and abilities of real leadership; instead of those of bullying leadership

This is truly what real leadership is all about; that the bullies and the rich and famous follow you for meeting the needs of their resepctive inabilities, incompetencies, talents and skills of knowledge, education, experience and wisdom.

India is still a developing country because there are still many fronts where it has to develop. For example, there are many villages without proper health care, schools, roads ,proper sanitation and many more facilities. We have many people living under poverty line. There are many people who are not literate. There are many other things like child mortality, women welfare, sanitation, per capita income,child labour etc which have to improved. At the rate at which these things are being attended, you can be sure that within a short time India can also be a developed country. Yes, it takes more time for all these things, but you have to consider the size of the country also.
Nice question!

because the US is scared that if India is given a developed country status then they will have to slowly step down!

India has everything but is made to believe that they still dont have what makes them a developed country... its only a perception!

I think all Indians should proclaim a developed country status!
