Why isnt the river Ganga known as Yamuna??

If you see the political map of india, you see that the distance of ganga as well as yamuna is the same from their sources -gangotri and yamnotri to the place at allahabad where they meet Te river that flows then onwards is known as ganga.
It can be known as yamuna too but if not i want to know why is it so......
You can refer to the map here though it is notpretty clear, the river that flows from above is ganga and the one below is yamuna

Please I want some genuine answers cause I really wanna know about it.........

I feel because of the names of their respective origins, they are called Ganga and Yamuna.

Regarding their merging in Allahabad and stream next called as Ganga only; it is the dominance, significance, major quantum of water flow of Ganga - these are the main factors which retain the name of the merged stream still as Ganga.

Ganga river is known as sacred river in INDIA.
And that is one of the reason why it is above all the rivers in INDIA.

GANGA's importance is connected with LORD SHIVA and it is said that Ganga is coming down to earth from the HAIR of Lord SHIVA.
It has got religious believe, Hence it is known as Ganga even after it meet yamuna and saraswati :)

see..yamuna is always considered a tributary of ganga ..yamuna gets seperated from ganga and flows through delhi while ganga flows through uttar pradesh...then they meet at allahbad and then flow they are known as ganga as ganga is obviously a bigger river and yamuna was juz a part of it.

shipra
They are two different rivers.

NO , BECAUSE THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT RIVERS , DUMBO.THEY JUST MEET AT ALLAHBAD , BUT IN REALITY THEY ARE DIFFERENT RIVERS. WHO TOLD YOU THAT GANGOTRI & YAMNOTRI ARE AT SAME PLACE ? THEY ARE AT DIFFERENT PLACES.

i guess its partly coz of their place ov origin n partly coz ov that old story abt bhagirath bringin it from heaven,,,so it ws called ganga ever since like u hv a name since u were born!!
