don't think so.. despite the globalisation , indian people are still very sticked to their national identity ( this is how i think).. maybe not as much as their were in the past, however, i believe they care too much about their culture & language to let it be replaced by another... at least i hope so .. |

Get your statistics right, friend : Hindi [in its various dialects] is still spoken by a majority of Indians - and the total circulation of Hindi newspapers by far exceeds that of all the English dailies !
...Simply because the 'highly visible' metropolitan and urban 'conspicuous consumers' spout English, does NOT in any way mean that 'all the education in India is in English' !
According to the last National Census [2000-'01], around 65%of India's population is Literate.
Of these, only 2.3% of India's adult [over 18 of age] population knows enough English - to be able to read, write, and communicate in it.
...Can anyone explain how this 2.3% can hope to 'replace' the rights of the remaining 63% or more of Indian citizens ?
...Besides, the 'burning' question in Indian politics has always been as to how English [which is still the medium for official correspondence, even after 50-odd years since the British left !] can be replaced by Hindi, and NOT the other way around !
...Since Hindi [a potpourri just like English, of Persian and Arabic words admixed with various North Indian dialects, plus a dash of Samskrut, and Pali] is still not acceptable as a 'national language' to some South Indian states, English still carries on !
But, within the time span of another 2 generations, Hindi will get to replace English. English will then have to carry-on - as just another one of India's 'link languages' to communicate with the rest of the world ! |

Just because some pople in the metropoliton areas of Inidia try to look so cool speaking english doesnt mean Hindi is dying.Only some.1% of Inidans live in cities and speak English. Most people living in north indian still speak hindi and it's dialects |

It will never replace Hindi, but national and ethnic feeling will probably cause a division of use between the north and the south.
In southern states, which resent the attempt to impose the non-native language Hindi from the north, English will probably carry on as the normal lingua franca.
But in the north of India, English is decreasing in usage as the normal lingua franca: many people there think of "Hindi" as some kind of national and therefore patriotic language. |

No ,never hindi was our national language ,it is and it will be .No other language has the power to replace our national language . In the schools ,colleges, and universities too hindi is taught and would be taught .most of the major papers in India are published in hindi .that doesn't matter what the the celebrities do this shows that they have no respect for their native land .3/4 of the people in India speak in hindi.and now the the keyboards of the computers also come in hindi .I have full faith that the natinal language of the Indians will never diminish.I am proud to be an Indian and I know that every Indian is proud to be the native of India. |

I don't think so, I think they have schools in India to teach the children and such so they can get a better education else where. Inside India there are many native languages as well as Hindi its self, I think it would be hard to demolish all of those languages, jsut so English would be the dominate language. People are very prod of their countries and language I don't think English will replace all of Hindi in India. |

No i don't think so. But I think it's a good move to have English as another language in india aside from Hindi. Bi-lingualism opens more doors as English is the window to the global economy |

I do not think so. If the celebrities are going to answer everything in english and are forgetting their roots.. its not a problem at all cos all the celebraties in India do not constitute 0.001% of 1 billion population in india of which atleast 40% know hindi..!!
so.. hindi is in no danger!! |

I don't think so. Most people in India knows three language. Even a persion who si in Hindi speaking zone, knows Punjabi, Urdu, Maithilee, or Bhojpuri, Btraj, Awadhi...
Out side, the home they are working for the official purposes, but in many offices many people still use Hindi. I am a lecturer and I use Hindi as a medium of Instruction for the convience of Students. |

Not necesarrily.English is dominant but hindi can never become extinct.Hindi is so firmly entrenched in our culture that it will never leave our country. |

The question has a general idea.English will replcae Hindi as medium of communication almost everywhere, but it cannot replace the language and its heritage. The people of India will not allow that to happen. |

certainly now. ppl use everyday english in conversations, make all the formal things in english, but certainly its not REPLACING hindi. english is used for convenience. |

It is not possible as Globalisation is happening in all the fields and also it is the only common language spoken by the majority of the peple as the link language. |
