No, you won't look ridiculous. Most places I've visited people really appreciate tourists making an effort. Also, most women wear saris in India, so you wouldn't look odd at all. My wife has blonde hear and gray eyes and our friends in India commented how nice they thought she looked in her sari. Go and enjoy yourself! |

I love them too. There's nothing quite as beautiful to see on a woman.
And in India - well I think the locals would simply feel honoured, and appreciative, of you embracing their culture. |

you must put on the sari properly! u shud ask someone Indian 2 help u out. i have my mum, thank god, or i'll be in a right mess! lol! the Indians wud be flattered that u like their culture. there are the minority that wud ridicule u and put u down, unfortunately, there is always a minority like that. just don't go down dodgy alley ways or something like that. if someone looks dodgy they probably are so stay away! and trust ur instincts. their probably right. be careful! the tattoo wont be a problem. no one wud care about it. . so be careful! have fun!! do loads of shopping!!! and enjoy our Asian culture!!!! |

I don't think you need worry what the locals think, saris are developed for the local climate and it makes more sense to wear them when you're out there - I certainly would! I think they look beautiful, actually. |

You would look gorgious, and no one would look at you thinking your mis using the sari, infact all the women would be so made up to see you wearing one then any of the so called western cloth's.
so please feel comfortable and don't even think you would be upsetting any one.as for the western cloth's you could give them a total miss.
you would love wearing a sari trust me. |

You are quite right about the adaptation thing. When I was in India, I got myself a few "Mundle's" which is a cloth that men twine around their waste (like a damned skirt) but the cotton was cool and everyone enjoyed seeing me wear them. The nice thing was that one could lift the mundle on the side and fold it over the waist, so that you get a cool breeze under it when walking.
Go for it - and get yourself a silk sarie for evenings too. |

Saree is an elegent dress but it needs the art of tying it. For a new comer, it may be difficult. Even after you have tied it, managing it is rather difficult. In that state of confusion you may feel embarassed.
I suggest you wear Punjabi Suits, these are easy to wear, easy to manage and look smart on anyone.
Welcome to India. |

You would be better off in a sari, you will be less of a target, every western woman I know who has been to India has had a hell of a time, where ever they go they got groped and harassed by Indian guys who seem to think that western women are easy, all the women complained about little strange men just walking up to them and grabbing their breasts, and other disgusting behaviour. |

I think some Indians appreciate that you've made the effort although may be offended by the tatoo. The majority of fellow westerners may laugh. |

it won't look bad at all......n as u have mentioned about your tatoo, it depends on where it is located.....if its jus below ur neck at back, then it would look a bit bad as that portion always gets exposed ....If its not over there, then everything is jus fine in wearing a sari.... |

i think you will be the center of attraction to the prople with those tatoos, why dont you try suit n salwar with fulkari on it that will hide your tattoos and you will look pretty too sari is a party wear in travelling and day to day life most indian young women wear suit and salwar whereas in parties they try sari |

Interesting question......I hope you hear from an Indian. I've always wondered how it would be perceived: culturally sensitive, complementary or Indian wannabee. I can see why you want to wear one, I think they are beautiful. Good luck! |
