Don't know what an abanded house is but there are abandoned ones all over Ireland - you have only to find a good estate agents

Yes there are abandoned (derelict) houses, but the land they sit on is not abandoned. Most are not for sale. If they do come up for sale, they and the sites they sit on are never cheap. So don't expect to pick up an "abandoned" house for next to nothing - greed has overtaken the property market here in Ireland and everything is well overpriced.

Sshhhh! It's Podge and Rodge

Ballydung Manor, Ballydung, Ireland.

they are mainly in the west or there is some in different streets in Dublin. If you live (squat) in an abanded house for at least 12 years, the owner can't evict you. that happened in a house near where I live.

In the west there are some abandoned houses in far out rural areas. The owners may have gone to work elsewhere, and there is always the possibility they will come back some day. By the time they have decided not to return, the houses are uninhabitable. It is a shame that perfectly good houses are left basically to fall in, but that is what happens too often. Other houses may be owned by elderly folk in nursing homes, and nothing will be done until they die and relatives inherit. Please note - the houses actually do belong to someone. They are not there just for grabbing.

Trust me I'm a Doctor ♥
There are many "abandoned" derelict houses around where I live but they are not for sale.

You need to contact an auctioneer in an area you would like to live and see if they have any for sale. Expect to pay 80-100,000 Euro roughly even for a ram shackled old property, depending on the area, more if there is land attached to it.

Unfortunately there are many strewn all over the Island, some were taken over by distant family members of the original owners and used as barns and the like. However, some were so rural that they remained unused to this day and became state property. A typical example can be found in the McCann brothers series The Hanging Gale where an entire village, abandoned by the immigrants, or victims of The Great Hunger, was used in the production. The particular village in questioned is located in Donegal near the village of Glen on the Lough Salt road and is in pretty good shape considering its history. Like I said before there are many around the Donegal and I believe the South West proximity to harbours aided in these places been left to ruin as many made their escape to America or Australia in the hope of bringing family with them at a later time. If you ever find yourself in Glen Carrigart Donegal any of the residents would be only to happy to give directions.

There are several. Unfortunately most of them are unhabitable.

So if you want to squat, find someplace else.
