It's got to be Cork!
How oft do my thoughts in their fancy take flight
to the home of my childhood away.
To the days when each patriot’s vision seemed bright;
Ere I dreamed that those joys should decay
When my heart was as light as the wild winds that blow,
Down the Mardyke to each elm tree.
Where I sported and played 'neath the green leafy shade,
On the banks of my own lovely lee.

The question was city, so I would have to agree with Kilkenny.
Connemara, Clare, Kerry and other places mentioned are not cities, but counties. There is a difference. |

Killarney is the most beautiful. It is not a city just a large town |

kilkenny is not really a city as such, the town only has a population of about 8,000 and even including environs that only rises to about 20,000. It has no 3rd level college/university either
for me the nicest real city in ireland is galway. Cork, limerick and dublin are full of historial buildings built by the "english". Galway is as quintessentially Irish as one can get, the atlantic coast is only minutes from the city center, the small winding streets give a glimpse of yesteryear, the catheral is one of 20th century Irelands great monuments, the university is beautifully appointed (especially the area near the quad), eyre square is probably the finest city park in ireland |
