Shure it's all the lightweights that go out Saint Patrick’s Day.

If I manage to go out, I go to an old mans pub with my friends. That was a fun night on Saint Patrick's Day, when we got my male Limerick friend to chat up an old middle age man for a dare. We were playing dares. The poor guy. But he knows we only joking.

At Least we weren’t one of those idiots who only drink a few times a year. And when they do drink they don't know how to drink proper.

They vomit, cause fights or end up having random sex with some other idiot. Or end up in Hospital (taking up places for real people who are sick) or in trouble with the Guards.

Shure nobody pinches someone in Ireland Saint Patrick’s Day for not wearing Green.
Some of the men pinch you anyway. God what happen to a conversation first? The joys of being hot in Ireland, sigh

Shure my outfit was not green at all. It was black and half lace top, High purple boots and some type of skirt. A bit bewitching for Saint Patrick’s Day. But I am sure Saint Patrick would like us to wear what we want. It’s what inside that counts.

Some people that go overboard on the whole green asamblea, may haven’t a fiddlers string about Ireland or Saint Patrick for that matter.

It's now 2:20 am on 18 March so no longer Paddy's day.

We don't do the whole 'dress up in green' thing. If you pinched someone here you would quite likely end up with a punch in the face.

Tommy2cans
We have a parade for the kids but most people just drink and the holy people go to mass

Nobody wears green and as the person said before me u pinch someone ur getting punched LOL!!!

There's no rule here that says you have to wear green. You can wear whatever colour you like. As it happens, the Munster rugby team supporters were in the parade wearing their colour, which happens to be red.

We burn people who don't wear green. Strap em up on any old bollard, and burn em.

How do you spot an Irishman on St Patrick's day ?

They're the one NOT wearing the Irish fancy dress :)

St Patrick's day was always a day when the shops were shut and we attended mass and sang Amhrán na bhFiann in the pubs at night.

It's now very "American" with the parades and events. It's also a better day for it, but alas shops are open and it does not have the patriotic special day it once had (personal opinion)

I also think it is very odd that non Irish people celebrate St Patrick's day when they don't do anything the celebrate their own patron saint.

Like a Fox
It's no longer Paddy's day, people don't make a big deal if you don't wear green, If you pinch someone for that your likely to have no teeth left after.

The Nine Lives of Laura Gonzales
I'm Irish. This is exactly what I did yesterday:

I got up, had a shower, watched some TV, ate lunch, went into town and bought some socks, came home and went online, ate dinner, (veggie curry, no corned beef and cabbage for me, thank you.) watched The Simpsons, some documentary about how to be Irish with an English actor called Shane Ritchie (there was a lot of eyerolling) and Desperate Housewives. I did not wear green or get drunk.

Well it was yesterday in Ireland (17th of March)
And we don't do anything if someone's not wearing green

They don't pinch people, eat corn beef and cabbage, and dress up in green, let's just say that.

St. Patrick's Day has got to be the most corny American holiday.

froggequene
No, St Patrick's Day is not like it is in the US.

It's not just a national holiday, it's a holy day of obligation so some people will have gone to mass.

Most of the bigger towns will have had a parade of some sort.

It is not obligatory to wear green, people might wear a bit of shamrock if they can get their hands on it, maybe a badge, I'd say that mostly older people do that now and if Guinness are on a promotional drive in the pubs some people will get to have a stupid hat.

ilovemenwithhairyfeet
well its st patricks day o nthe 17th and its nearly the same with the parades and everything but people really go out and get plastered....and we dont actuially do anything if a person doesnt wear green....unlike our stereotype we dont all go around wearing green and aran jumpers dancing with the sheep and leprechauns.....
