Well If your looking for history museums etc go to dublin(the capital) and there is the national history museum and trinity college which both do that kind of thing also there is the Dail eireann(the irish parliment in other words)and its intresting to see!if your into sportsand plan to come to ireland during the summer you should buy tickets for a GAA (Gaelic football or Hurling)match its unreal somthing you will never forget..especally if its on in Croke Park...if you were to go further south west you would come to the province of munster where there are many castles, historical sites and museums.you should google it......and good luck..

Just steer clear of the midlands. Too many lakes, too much standing water, leads to some very strange behaviour indeed. I usually make sure I enough provisions and fuel so that I don't have to stop there in my dash to the west coast.

In short, do spend some time in Dublin, but even more time on the Atlantic coast ... anywhere will do ... but best coastal counties are Galway, Mayo, Cork, Kerry and Donegal.

All people will say their town is the best.
All of Ireland is interesting, we hired a car for 2 weeks last Nov.and covered a great part of it. because its so small, I could drive from one side, Galway to Dublin in less than a day. Every town has a story to tell, but stay away from the main cities, they are just like any other large city in the world.
The small towns and locals are great.

Navan, County Meath; Newgrange and Hill of Tara, Slane is also nice. I disagree about the midlands. I loved Killaloe and Loch Eirne.
