Any recommendations for places to see in the Irish countryside?

I'm renting a car from Dublin and plan to take my wife to see Powerscourt. I'm open to any recommendations to places to drive to on the same date, whether it be views, a local town, restaurants, whatever. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You won't get far in one day, but you could go on to Glendalough as well.

Don't drive in Dublin city, it's a pain in the ****.

Achill Island in County Mayo is the most beautiful place in the world, imo. I've been their twice.
the landscape is beautiful, people are very friendly (i recommend the little place called Valey for a pint or two) and the beaches are breathtaking (even if it is too cold to swim there). I know it's a long drive from Dublin, but it's worth it!!!!!!

Mayo (in particular Westport and Ceide Fields), Galway and my hubby says there are some amazing drives in Sligo.

West, north and south of Ireland all have a plantiff beauty. The Sun here is silver ,some times looks like a silver dollar passing though the mists recon thats why Irish people exported their gold, their people, to spread the word. gold here wasnt really accepted like in Med countries Would love you to see it. But my vote is Sligo, Yeats country, seemed to invigorate the bard's mind.

Oh come away oh human child
to the waters and the wild
for the world's
more full of weeping
than you can understand

God bless
