Anybody know how a canadian can get citizenship for Ireland (passport)?

Hi There,

I would like to know if it's possible to have dual citizenship. I am a canadian citizen who wishes to become a citizen of Ireland too.

No none of my parents were born or raised in Ireland. I am not marrying an Irish man. Is there anyway for me to apply for citizenship without these things?

Help me!! Thanks for any information you can give.

There are three ways to become an Irish citizen, (1) through birth or descent, (2) through naturalisation or (3) through marriage to an Irish citizen.
So it looks like it will have to be through naturalisation for you, unless you fall in love and marry an Irishman in the four years you will need to be living in Ireland before you can apply for naturalisation.
You can find out the details at the site below:

I have a feeling that getting into Ireland without relatives, would be very difficult. However, getting into England should be easier as both Canada and England are under the same rule. Have you ever gone back into your geneology to figure out where your ancestors immigrated from? You must surely have relatives somewhere. Otherwise, if you are a teacher or have certain skills, many nations are looking for these people as immigrants. By the way it is freezing cold in Ireland and rains ALOT! Why not go and live in Ireland for a few months as you are allowed to stay for less than 6 months anyway, and find out if you really love it to the death to become a citizen. Best of luck. Jen

I think it should be really easy...They seem to be handing it out to so many from just about anywhere these days..Which makes it just about worthless
