Anyone from Limerick Ireland here or has anyone ever been here? ?
Do you think it deserves the name ''STAB CITY'' if so why? have you ever been the victim of crime here?...

I live in County Limerick and go into Limerick city regularly. Not many people know this, but Limerick is a hotbed of the arts, both the city and the county. The city has numerous performances, events, poetry nights, open mike nights, exhibitions, etc., every week. There is always something to do, someplace to go. There are four excellent third-level educational establishments there, and at least two excellent vocational training colleges. Graduates of the art college do extremely well, with the fashion department graduates winning awards regularly. Not bad for a small city with a bad reputation! Recently a friend of mine who is a Dubliner through-and-through came down for a weekend, we went to a charity ball and parade and she said that the vibe in Limerick was fun, a little untamed but at the same time very natural and sophisticated, the way Dublin was 20 years ago before it 'got up itself' (her words, not mine. Don't get me wrong, she loves Dublin, but thinks its lost the run of itself.) I haven't been a victim of a crime in Limerick, and I've lived in the area for 7 years. And I do I think Limerick deserves to be called 'Stab City'? I most certainly do not. Compared to Dublin, Limerick is safe. However, no city is completely crime-free. |

No, I slag the place off the whole time but it doesn't deserve the 'stab city' name, at least not any more. There is still some gangland feuding in Limerick but it's between particular families in particular areas and 'civilians' don't usually get caught up in it. I spent a year in Limerick and never once experienced any problems. A girl from my hometown did, but she was hanging around with a friend of one of the local dealers and got caught up in some crap associated with that. If you keep your own nose clean, so to speak, Limerick is a lovely place to live. I've heard of other people being burgled, but as I was burgled 3 times in 6 months in Dublin I don't think Limerick is special in that regard. Limerick has developed quite a lot since the bad ol' eighties. There are good restaurants, pubs and clubs and the historic part of the town is worth a visit. The university and IT play a big role in the town, as does the Munster rugby club. There are beautiful walks along the Shannon and because it has been labelled as a 'problem town' there are loads of community developent projects and inclusion programmes that are making a visible difference to the place. |

We'd better keep our mouths shut because Orla C might be mad at us. It's not fair to call it Stab City any more, the stabbing fatality rates have gone down. You're probably better off calling it 'Stab Vest City' now..... We're the victims of crime every day, 26 quid for a bottle of Jameson! Sher that's daylight robbery! |

i moved from limerick to wexford 6 years ago and im still getting slagged off for it, but id laugh about it myself too... it really is only some areas that are affected by family feuding that give the place such a bad name. once the media grabs onto something like that they're going to feed off it no matter what... I mean everywhere has it;s crime. I personally feel worse walking by myself through wexford or gorey at night than i ever did in limerick! |
