Hi, this is a Mum not a student answering but have been there and done that with 3 children. What are your interests? 4th year should be fun but learning something different that you wouldn't normally choose. Art sounds good and home ec. Not too serious and could be a bit of fun. Bring out your arty side and learn how to cook a few things and maybe run a household !!!!! |

Omigosh i have to choose my leaving cert subjects for next friday and i don't have a clue what i want to do after school! Its soo hard!
We never chose subjects for 4th year though, wwe are just doing them all at the moment.
If i was you i would chose Business, to keep my options open and then i would chose my favourite from the ones that are left, Think of what you want to do after school and if any of them have any relevence to your future career (if u know what it is)
But i think just chose your favouriites (thats what my career guidance teacher told me) Your most likely to work hard at a subject you enjoy and maybe take it to future studies!
Good Luck!! :-D |

Not to be obvious but I'd pick what you were best at and at least kind of enjoyed in the Junior Cert. You want to pick the subject you'll get the most points in.
I did history and did very well but I love history. There's alot of learning but if you're willing to put in the effort you'll do well.
If you're very artistic and creative and again willing to work at it art is a good option. Otherwise forget it.
I found chemistry very difficult but if you were good at science in the Junior Cert it's a good option with biology.
Business and Home Ec were popular at my school. They take as much work as other subjects but people seem to do well in these. I was sorry I didn't choose one of these!
Biology is definately a good option. If you think you'll go down the science route in college it's worth taking both science subjects.
Anyway don't stress it too much and good luck!xx |

Try to keep your choices fairly broad, that way you can have a bit of fun next year and see what you like and what you don't like. Biology is a science, so I wouldn't necesarily pick Chemistry unless you were thinking about becoming a doctor or doing a science degree. Business is interesting, even if you haven't done it before and history is great if you like reading. Home Ec is fun, but it's not all baking and sewing, there is a lot on the food science and social side as well as project work. Despite what anyone tells you art is not an easy A and needs loads of hard work - any friends who took art seemed to spend more time on it than anything else. Good luck |

Biology is an excellent choice.
Hmm..out of those two..well
Business- is useful, and if you enjoy it then it will be easy enough
History- is very different from Junior Cert (no more 'I'm a celtic farmer...essays!). It involoves alot more Irish politics and 'Anaylse the.....'. You also have to do a project which takes up a good bit of time. But again, if you have an interest in history then some parts of the course will suit you. Personally, I enjoy it.
Home Economics- is one of my least favourie subjects! The journal work is very hard. I find it fustrating because we have to learn off alot of pointless facts we will never use in the future e.g 'Nutritive value of fish' or 'The Provision of Local Authority Housing'. But thats just my opinion!
Art- It is time consuming, but if you are good at it then it'll be fun. History of art can be hard for some people, so bear that in mind.
Chemistry- I don't do it, but I hear it's hard going. Depends if you like science really.
It depends on what subjects you like, and where your strong points lie. Also, what career are you interested in? Talk to your teachers or career guidence teacher, they help alot! |

I did history, chemistry and biology. Right now I'm in sixth year:(
Anyway, history is great if you like a lot of reading since that's all there is, besides the project at the end. Chemistry is very hard, but seems to easier for people who are good at maths. A lot of learning! Biology is great, isn't as hard as chemistry and easy to get marks in. My friend says that home ec. can be very science-y, but she likes it. Art is great if you're good at it, but I don't know much about business. PS. I really regret choosing chemistry instead of art, because 2 science subjects can be hard to deal with, but if you like science then you should do them. It leaves you with more options after school if you do 2 science subjects. I'm more of an arty type of person! Hope I helped! |
