Yes, B&Bs are more expensive. In Mayo, where I live, average is €35 to €45 per night. If you choose An Oige hostels, they are used by backpackers on holiday, mainly fyoung tourists. I checked out two in Mayo, and they cost €17 per night. You should be a member of a youth hostel organisation. http://www.anoige.ie/

Some hostels are indeed used by the homeless, but if you check out youth hostels rather than just hostels (do a goodle search), they should be exactly what you are looking for. Many of the An Oige ones are in more remote areas, which is fine for walking or cycling holidays.

Yes B&B'S are more expensive but they are a better option, Hostel in Ireland are mainly used by homeless people. Most B&B's cost between 30-50 euro per night

Yes - well in hostels you share rooms and cooking facilities. Bed and breakfast facilities are like mini hotels.

Yes, definitely. I heard of one crowd charging 90€ per night for the room, mind you this was in Dublin!

Hostels are far more rudimentary, you often share bathrooms and showers with strangers, and sometimes bedrooms also, as in dormitories.

Midnight Sun
yeah definitly

Yes, but it is a good value for the money, hostels can be a bit bare and you never know who is going to turn up.

You usually get a meal or two at the B&B's as well.
