Depends on the Irish person and the foreigner, same as anywhere else. I would like to say that yes, we welcome everyone, but unfortunately some scumbags ruin it for everyone with their small-minded ways. Where are you from Charlie? It would make it easier to answer your other questions knowing that.

We're always nice to foreigners especially the Polish women. We do be lovin the Polish girls in Ballydung only a lot of them seem to be going home. We blame Brian Coward for depriving us of our Polish beauties.

Not at all. They don't like foreigners. They treat them as second class citizens. I was living in Ireland and believe me it's very very clannish and xenophobic. This was the only country that I didn't get friends, so it's impossible all the other countries to be craps and just only Ireland to be fine.

I don't know why the people don't wanna talk to foreigners but they don't even try. I would love to make friends but the locals are very hostile towards outsiders especially the newcomers. Even the Europeans had hard to live there. You can see a lot of times teenagers walking down the streets laughing at you especially if you from the south of Europe like Italian, Spanish, Greek, Malta... Especially in Dublin a city that no one smiles, where you don't know even your neighbor...

I remember when I was there ppl were asking me aggressively "Where are you from"? making me feel uncomfortable all the time. Finally I was abused because of my foreign nationality despite I am European and extremely easy going.

How I have missed the polite nurses, the clean streets, the good mornings and thank you...

I know I am speaking with sweeping generalization but I can't avoid it. As I said I am very easy going and I could really congratulate if someone from this country will come and say to me "let's go for a coffee" one of the things I have missed.

Try Scotland. You will not regret all for all it's annoyingly friendly.

yeah, irish people are nice. we are more patient comparing to other countries. of course there are the few cranky grumps, but thats a minority.

I'm American. I used to live in Ireland. I wasn't a tourist. To be perfectly honest we packed up and left because of how mean the people were.

I'm sure the whole country isn't like that. I mean you have mean people wherever you go. But 5 yrs of torment was enough.....

Some are nice, some are definitely not. Same as anywhere really. Don't let prospective rudeness scare you off a visit - you might just as easily never encounter a rude person and have a lovely trip.

Being rude or mean to tourists/foreigners anywhere is at heart a bit cowardly.

My family lives in Galway and I have visited them 7 times from Boston and I always get the Red Carpet treatment from all the Irish. They are friendly and I have never had anything but welcome from anyone there.

I am. I get on fine with them. But then I have been a foreigner in other countries, so I understand what it is like for some of them, especially the ones who don't speak English very well yet.

Depends on the Irish person and Foreigner. We're not too keen on Polish considering they have all our jobs!
