Crazygirl

Are Irish people turning into an obese nation?

I mean I think so. It is normal to have a few big boned people in country.
Like it is normal to have some very thin people in a country.
But I think Irish people are getting bigger of late.

I mean a bit of meat on the bone is O.K

But it is not unusual noe to see an Irish man who has a chest that would fit a DD bra cup.

I know about hormones problems, etc but not everybody has these.

I would never mock a person about their size but surly a man shaped like this would not be happy or healthy. Like some men are a normal size, then they eat a load of crap food and drink a lot and get really big.
This is not their natural size then.

Anyway a person who is naturally big does not look abnormal.

They look fine. Many naturally big people have really nice faces.
They do not have double chins at all.
It is just their body is bigger than the average.

They would look weird to be very thin.

I am on about people who are not naturally big.

It does not look nice on women too, who is not naturally that size.
It shows on their face and clings badly if they have a naturally thin skeleton.

I am sure I will get a lot of verbal abuse for asking this question.
But I think that Ireland will have a major obese problem in the future.

I have no problem with adults who are naturally big.
But do not understand people who feel the need to eat themselves into an early grave.

Cheers

What I mean is turning into one.

It is not yet of course.

They say worldwide sales of fast food have gone up sense the Recession.

We have some of the best places to walk in the world. It would be sad if we became an obese nation years down the line.

How sad would it be for future generations of young Irish adults to be unable to go on a hill walk because they were too heavy to do so?

I hope the Government will intersect in time. But they do not have enough money, of course.

They should wait till Obese related Diseases become an epidemic and will cost the state billions. (Sarcasm)

Some Irish love take aways. But saying that if you exercise and eat crap food in moderation I do not see how you can get Obese. Unless you have a medical condition or are taking strong tablets for something.

Not really. Some do let themselves go, true, but that is the way of things. I think you are just starting to notice it, like when one starts to read the obituaries or notice plane crashes and it seems like there are more than usual. Look at old family or general historical photos - you'll find fat people and skinny ones. It's the same anywhere.

I do think everyone would be better off eating decent healthy food, but I don't think it's as bad as it's painted to be in the press. It is also not the government's responsibility - people need to account for their own health.

And no, all Americans are not fat. Don't believe the hype. According to the media we are all fat and/or have eating disorders. Anything is more sensational and press worthy than the truth, which is that we have fat people and skinny people. How could all Americans be fat? Be logical. It's like that book on how French women don't get fat - well, some do.

And the whole thing about obese people costing the healthy millions - is that worse than smokers or drinkers costing the country millions? Because the cancer and heart attack rates of those people are higher. Obese people generally don't live that long statistically so they aren't that much of a drain. They are just an easy visible target, as opposed to a drinker or smoker who is unhealthy but thin.

It isn't as simple as it's made out to be.

That said, I am always surprised by teens and college age students being fat - how is that possible? Older people have to work to keep weight off as gaining is part of aging to an extent. But a teenager has such a high metabolism that to be overweight at that age is a warning sign.

Americans are fat period. And yes I am American. My husbands family is all irish and aome of them keep their weight down and the others REALLY let themselves go and go.It is a mosh pit at family get togethers for the food and they don't seem to ever make enough. It's really disgusting to watch them eat.At our edding, someone snuck into the food before the line to congradulate the couple and got mustard all over my dress. The pictures werent'' even finished. sigh

Well all i know is dat we Irish love to eat out !!

i know of quite a few small towns, maybe even villages with up to 5 takeaways at a time !!!
And kids nowadays have so much more money that they used to for their lunch and so.

I can't really say that Irish people are gone obese, but i can see where your coming from.

Crazygirl.....I hear ya! Ever see those little (or big) teens prouncing around the place with clothes too tight, and all rolls hanging out??!! Put it away love! Its disgusting, but I think these deluded people genuinely think they look like beyonce or something. Please, please either walk to school, or loose the mickey d's. Man, and his boobs, urgh! My mother always told me never go out with a man with longer hair than you, or bigger boobs than you.

No, I honestly don't believe they are turning into an obese nation. Like any other country, they have their overweight people, and they have their skinny people. It's like any other country really.
