Are the Irish police a good police force.? |
I know that they do not carry weapons, which is nuts in Wild West Dublin.
I read recently that they had given out traffic tickets to Prawo Jazdy, which is Drivers License in Polish.
Given the high amount of Polish people cominginto Ireland over the years you would think they would have at least checked the format for their european documents. |

They don't do much. And apparently they take ages to come out when they're needed. |

Good compared to who? Some of them carry guns, but the uniformed members don't. If PJ Stone had his way though.... |

All things considered I would think there a good force compared to things i've witnessed in other countries. Plus you can't blame them for being a bit laxidasical about some things, it's the culture we have in this country; if it's not an emergancy another ten minutes won't hurt. I've also seen then breack up many a fight in Dublin at half two in the morning. Personally I'm against guns but believe that they should introduce more mounted Gardà because the are the most efficient...well except if you need to "bring someone in".
Also, the polish thing was a bit of a disgrace but in all fairness it was only 50 and it does honestly look like it could be the name |

@ Like A Fox: The force ARE good.
our car was stolen before and they found it in 24 hours. okay, they didn't turn up at my home til 4:55 (the robbing was at 4:00) but still.. they helped us tons. |

I have the highest respect for the Gardai, but I think with our Laws they are very limited with what they can do. |

In my experience no. I got held up in an armed robbery and when I rang the guards there was no one at my local station and it took over an hour for them to respond while I was on my own having had a bloke holding a knife to my neck. On a precious occasion it took over a week for them to take my statement. |

Its not up to the police to know polish. They only need to know Gaelic and English. They are the languages spoken in Ireland. If you want to live in another country the least you could do is be respectful enough to learn the local customs an language. |

I'm sure they aren't as crooked as the ones in Iran and places like that. Just make sure not to screw up. |

No the Garda are useless, when you actually need them they never turn up, instead they spend their time handing out speeding tickets to people going a mile over the limit. |

The Garda are completely and utterly useless. The Dáil does more good in this country than the Peelers. |

Galway City, the top of shop street, 2 guys randomly started a fight with eachother.
1:00 in, an old man comments....." its been 10 minutes now and no sign of a fukin Garda!".....
When they do show up, one of the Garda, I believe he looks a trainee, looks as awkward as an old woman separating 2 large dogs, it all looks abit silly |
