Are the Irish really as feisty as their reputations make them seem? |
Are the Irish really as feisty as their reputations make them seem?
My family comes from Irish descent. When we get to drinking it often leads to fighting (sometimes each other, some times other people) and we often seem to blame it on our Irish blood. But, Irish blood or not, does it make a difference I wonder. Additional Details I think I've come to the conclusion that you ARE as feisty as your rep. Some of you seemed to get a little worked up there. Thanks for giving me my answer!! =] |

mmmm..that's kinda like saying 'are all the americans as fat as their reputations make them seem?'...see you would want to stick up for yourself there..so no we are not all as feisty. |

Lots of nationalities and ethnicities drink to excess and make complete arses of themselves, not just Irish.
I'm born and reared in Ireland, and I know plenty of people who can have a good time without drinking too much and getting into fights.
The fact of the matter is, you can't hold your drink and you should be more mature and responsible about this. Drinking to excess when you know it leads to trouble is stupid. Family occasion or no, just stop drinking and walk away. |

at this stage, an irish-american (as in someone who says one side of there family can be traced back to ireland) and irish people are about as similar as an irish person and a russian. |

Orla C hit the nail on the head. Feisty is a term usually associated on a sober level. If you get a bad experience with a shop, do you stand up for yourself and say "hey this isn't on", that could be construed as feisty, or just intelligence. With drink added into it, thats purely because you can't handle your drink. If your fighting with your family, each other, and your toe nails, thats nothing to do with the Irish, let it be known, we're a nation that CAN handle our booze. Granted the reputation "the fighting Irish", is still existant, don't think we're like that, god knows we've left our Government do enough to us without saying anything. |

Yes we are, a Mc-White married and Murphy that's our family and let me tell you we are a hand full, some of us have learned to control it but, it is a constant battle. I think sometime we try to live up to the rep. but I've notices that as an African American with Irish added in, my fam. is very much like some of the full Irish. |
