Leprechauns are a typical thing people would associate with Ireland.

I was watching a show a while back and it was on myths, The myth was you will not be served in a shop in Ireland unless you speak Irish! The Irish can't even speak Irish for gods sake!

Loads , Finn Mac Cool the Legendary Half Man Half Celtic God and Warrior and Giant was supposed to have Picked up the Land that Formed Lough Neagh where Belfast is and threw it into the Sea and Formed the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea.

The Children of Lear was turned into Swans by an Evil King and condemned to Live on a Lake ,and after a couple of Hundred Years Saint Patrick came to the Lake and called upon God to change the Children back to People which they did and lived to a Happy Old Age.

The Banshee was a Spirit Women that Followed certain Families who were about to have a death in their Family. She is said to be a Wicked Old Hag with Mad Piercing Red Eyes all in White who Floats a few Feet off the Ground, Constantly Combing Her Hair, and Screaming sometimes like the Wind or like a Tortured Animal. You are not supposed to stop or Talk to it or you could be next to Die. She has been Known to Throw the Comb at People and they Die soon after.

There are a lot of Devil Stories. The Hell Fire Club in the Dublin Mountains. Was A Mansion Built in the 18 th Century by A Lord and He Held Wild Parties and anything and everything went on there. There was Wild Sexual Orgies and Bestiality and Gambling at these Parties. One Night there was the usual Stuff Happening with a Mad Party in Different Parts of the Mansion and Gambling in the other Part. There was a Card Game and one of the Guests began looking at a Tall Dark Mysterious Man Playing Cards and noticed when they looked at his Feet that he had hoofs instead of Normal Feet and Let out a Scream in Fright and Ran for the Door. Everybody looked at the Dark Mysterious Man and they to Ran for the Door. This was the 18 th Century and they only had Candles and Oil Lamps for Light and these were Knocked over in the Panic and the Mansion was Set alight and a lot of People were Killed. Onlookers Heard a Horrrible Sound of Mad Laughter Above the Flames. All this Area is said to be Haunted ever since, and People are very nervous Visiting it. A lot of Stuff goes on there,All Kinds of Witch Craft Rituals and even Animal Sacrifice and some say UnBaptised Babies are Offered up to Satan. It is a very Spooky Place.

Tons, possibly more than any other country. best known are Banshees, leprechauns,St Patrick & the snakes etc but there are hundreds more. All over the land are burial mounds of neolithic people often with chambers inside--these are reputed to be the homes of the fairy folk, the Sidhe, who aren't twee little beings but a tall fierce warrior race! Even into recent time some towns have resisted excavation of their local mound in case it angers the fairy folk.
As for other otherworldly beings, there is also Cluricaun (similar to leprecaun), Fer Dearg the red Man, fear Gorta man of Hunger, the Phooka who is a shape-changer, the ganconer who entrances young mortal maidens who die afterward, the Leanan-sidhe, the female fairy lover who brings doom to young mortal men,and of course hundreds of ghosts from all periods in time!
Famous mythic objects include of course the Blarney stone but there are other weird shrines and wells than confer 'gifts' too. in one ruined church lies a weathered old medieval effigy known as the tomb of the jealous man & woman. It is covered with hundreds of tiny pins, desposited there as offerings. This is still going on today, have seen it myself.
