basically our government and bankers are corrupt and have started a depression in this country, our obesity levels are soaring, heroin addiction rate is booming back, and our health system is often fatally innaccurate

That is a rather biased way of looking at it. Bad things happen everywhere. N.Ireland is a lot safer than Dublin sometimes. Everyplace has crime.

You can't judge things accurately by the media - they always hype the bad and violent stories because bad news sells better than good.
