No, there are no snakes in Ireland. There are also no snakes in New Zealand and Antarctica. Hawaii only has water snakes (no land dwelling snakes).

dtedad-50
Ireland has NO snakes as the climate is to cold for this kind of species.
Of course it is said that St. Patrick banished all the snakes from Ireland, but this is only a romantic myth.
There are no snakes in the fair isle.

Hello,
I am a nomadic Irishman, and for the best part of 50 years I have been back and to to Ireland for Holidays to be with my family, and twice a year for all those years, it's been How're Ya to all my family and friends at Home in Galway, Clare Connemara, and Roscommon, usually followed by " Have yers seen any snakes?", and not one time did any of my beloveds ever said "yes", so I am happy to tell you, that if you go to the many places I have been to, for what must be over a hundred trips, then you should be alright.....
And over Connemara, many times I was under canvas, with just a flash light for my personal safety, I have asked my wife too, has she ever seen a snake anywhere we have been in Ireland, and she said No, so there you are then, Proof positive... there aren't any of the little chuffers any where in my truly beloved country, Heaven Bless the Good, and Holy, St. Patrick. You relax now and have a wonderful time...... Tony M

murnip
No. Not even harmless ones like there are in Britain.

Not one. There is only one species of reptile here. The Viviparous lizard.

Saint Patrick banished all snakes from Ireland but I think that he missed a few - they are now called politicians............

(There are no natural snakes in Ireland).

As many people said, St Patrick is alleged to have driven out all snakes from Ireland (you might know that the snake/serpent was an evil animal according to the Old Testament of the Bible - it talked Eve into eating the forbidden fruit).

But what did St Patrick say as he drove the snakes out?

For the answer please see my web site below!

Modern Major General
Only two-legged ones who work as consultants!

Legend has it that St Patrick removed them all, and whilst there may not be too many being spotted, there is always the outside chance that snakes held in captivity can escape from time to time.

ShyGirl
I don't know - but there are some on a plane!

suek
no st patrick got rid of them all

Bernie c
Apparently not

I only saw one snake while I was in Ireland and it was in a jar of formaldahyde. The locals assumed it smuggled itself in with a ship of commodities from another country. Dirty little stowaway got his come-uppance.

I was born in Ireland and lived there for 25 years and I never saw a snake .Well the only snakes I saw were in Dublin Zoo....

the simple answer is no and yes lol.
no wild snakes because snakes are cold blooded and need the sun to heat their body temperature up they would not survive in the wild in ireland
yes pet snakes, but that's just too easy

Morgan J
People say St. Patrick drove out the snakes! but isnt that just metaphor for pagans? He converted the pagans to Catholics.? By ANY means do I want to insult anyone!! ; )

No wild snakes, but there used to be. Supposed to have been sent away by Saint Patrick. There are pet snakes though, in pet shops and stuff....

WHAT!?
Sure

sosgez
Yes, one, Bono.

knockbegsucks
Why do people who aren't from Ireland Answer this question!?!

No, there are no snakes.

Legend says that St.Patrick drove them from Ireland but thats just a stupid metaphore for him gettin rid of pagans.

Sean Meyler
yes

dark girl
I think so. People have snakes as pets don't they?(ha ha, only joking). I think there will be the harmless grass snakes - same as in the UK.

There are snakes everywhere. Some countries have more snakes...some countries have less. Im not sure about this but I think Ireland isn't some country with a lot of snakes.
