Are there beaches in Ireland? |
Are there beaches in Ireland? From all of the pictures I have seen the only waters edge I see are the cliffs. And is it warm enough to swim? I'm coming in three weeks and was just wondering if I should bring a bathing suit.
Thanks! Additional Details Yes I do know it is an Island. I have never left the east coast of the states and do not know what to expect. Thank you for those of you who were nice in answering my question. |

Hi There,
Yeah there are plenty of beaches in Ireland. We had a warm (compatred to normal) spell last week temepatures were up to 72f, which is really warm for here so you may be lucky and get a warm spell. If so definetly go for a swim in the sea, it will be initially cold but you'll soon get used to it.
Most of the cliffs you mentioned are found along the west coast of Ireland, which is more rugged than the east coast, however there are still plenty of fab beaches on the west coast.
Depending where you are based when in Ireland, will obviously determine what beach you may want to check out. If your in Dublin take the Dart (commuter train) to Portmarknock or kiliney. or get the bus/train to skerries or Balbriggan (both north of Dublin City).
If you'll be in Galway City, check out Salthill.
My absolute fav beach is Curracloe in Wexford and if you were in Wexford town its only a 10min drive from there so would definitely recommned it.
NO matter where you are in Ireland you wont be too far from a beach, for more info check out:

Have a great time in Ireland and hopefully you'll get the weather. |

No it's only all cliffs so don't go too near the edge!
You'd better bring a duffel coat to put on over your bathing suit. |

Haha good luck swimming. If you want pneumonia then you're going the right way about it. Theyre are beaches of course but most of them are very stony and not sandy. |

Yes, lots of beaches. My favorites are in the south and southwest, particularly around Kinsale and on the Dingle Peninsula. It's a bit warmer on the latter ... major clue: palm trees dot the area. |

Ireland is surrounded by water and beaches, the water here is very cold |

Here's a clue: It's an island. Only some parts of the coast are cliffs, not all. There are lots of beaches, and we tend to call them 'strands'.
While these are good for walking along, being North Atlantic waters, you'd want to be fairly robust to actually swim in them. By all means bring your swimsuit, though. |
