Best town to go?

I'm going to Sicily in October.
I know, I know - I missed the best time to go (Summer) but that's ok, it won't be the last time I visit. On a side note, I want to take a weekend trip somewhere else. Somewhere I have never been.
I've never been to Ireland and Cork looks really beautiful. Anyone know of any picturesque towns by the water that are really stunning and with things to do? Anywhere in Ireland is fine, if you know of someplace more beautiful than Cork.

Funny, how did you know I live there?
(Ohio)

it really depends. im from ireland n trust me cork isnt really dat nice. waterford further up the coast is much nicer - dats it u wat to b in a city. otherwise go to a place called leannan on the mayo /galway boarder. it really is spectactualar! so peaceful! n its near galway another major coastal city our standards. (bout n hours drive)

if u wat someting in between. not really urban yet not to rural try Ballina in Co.mayo. its situated on the river moy n has excellent wildlfe (some of the best salmon fishing in europe). i love that place. its situated just at the top of the estuary. near the ceidi fields (older than the priamids) In fact i cant decribe the region there is so much to it. its is very much under rated for tourism. a part form anglers n surfers!!

beats cork ne day

weather isnt great though in october :-(
