You don't say if you will have a car or not ? Its a bit limited what you can do if you don't have a car as you would be reliant on public transport which is a bit of a joke outside of the cities. Maybe take an organised coach tour. You could visit The Burren or the Cliffs of Moher if you like nature.

How long is the trip? If it's only a couple of nights, the drive to Dublin's probably not worth it. There's plenty of nice places around Shannon though.

if you are old enough there is a lot of pubs and if you like music you might be lucky and see a band a hotel might be Maldron Hotel Citywest if your near dublin
