If you really don't know what to do with your life but are attracted to a particular area (e.g. nursing, science, business, sport), then maybe you should consider doing a PLC course in your chosen area before you commit to a 3- or 4-year college course. These PLC courses, such as the ones run by FETAC, are a really valuable way of getting a taste of your subject area without the commitment. They are also a recognised stand alone qualification that will help you to get summer work etc in your summer breaks if/when you do go on to college. 4 distinctions in a FETAC level 5 course is the equivalent of 400 points in the Leaving, so that's also something to consider if you're not one of those people who will be getting 9 As. And of course you get the chance to make a more gradual transition from school to college, which really helps in terms of general maturity and knowing what you want from life.

Don't panic. Whatever skills you acquire and develop in third-level education, many are transferable into other industries. Don't think that if you do one thing, you're stuck in that for the rest of your life.

Yea, and on top of that we have mocks in 2 weeks.....
Did u fill yours out yet?
I done mine lastnight on the computer cuz ya get €10 off if ya do it there before the 20th.
And it wont accept it if you forgot to fill something in, so its better than the post.

I just put down kinda random stuff because i dunno wat to do yet.. Aslong as you get the form in, then you can change your choices from after May until July.

You get to change everything after the leaving, don't stress, just make sure to put any courses you're interested in that requires a portfolio etc. eg. architecture on now.

Don't worry about it, most people don't know what they want to do for the summer, never mind the rest of their lives. I'm in my 2nd year of uni and I still have no idea what I want to do. The most important thing, is to choose a course you think you'll enjoy. There are going to be boring bits and hard bits in every course, but if you're some way interested in it overall, you'll get through it and enjoy the whole college experience. However, if you for example pick a business course because you think it will be useful to get a job with but business bores you, it will be a struggle to pass your first year. Try to find something that is interesting to you. That way, you're far more likely to do well in college, come out with a good honours degree and end up in a job you'll also enjoy. It doesn't matter that you don't know what that job is just yet.

*NB: Doing a PLC course may be useful but there are disadvantages too. You'll need to weigh up the pros and cons. It can be great to get a taste of certain subjects or just give you more time to decide. Also, you'll have another year of being a student. One thing you might want to bear in mind, depending on your financial situation, is that at the moment we don't have tuition fees but the government is keen to introduce them if they think they can get away with it. If they introduce them after you have already started uni, then you probably won't have to pay fees because you've already got a kind of contract with the university. Legally, if fees are introduced, it should only be for people entering college after this introduction.*
