Your best bet is to check with the English and Irish embassies as some countries say that your passport has to be at least 6 to months months before your passport expires. When I was living in Ireland I had to go back home for an emergency,I had 4 months at the time until my passport expired.Immigration at Melbourne airport said that I would have been in trouble if I was from another country and recommend that if at all possible to get a new one straight away, but I didn't have time as I only stayed in Australia for 2 weeks. When I returned to Ireland I was also questioned, the only reason why they didn't question me any further was because I had residency there and had travelled with my residency book.

yes as long as you have a return ticket before you passport expires

i dont think it wil be a problem this end but your return journey may cause a problem - best check with your own passport office

Nope, renew it. Every airline in the UK will refuse you a boarding pass otherwise.

If you do it now you should receive one that's good for an extra 5 months, since you are paying for a fixed span and it hasn't lapsed yet. If not, use the new one to enjoy your travels.

When you return, challenge this, as nobody needs a passport to stay at home, and to travel, you need that 6-month extra expiry date. I doubt if they will argue, it's normal these days.

Bon voyage : )

You know 5 months on a passport is 5 months, If your return ticket is 6 months its ok you can always go to an embassy and update your passport

?
Only if you plan to head home within 5 months. Better hope you don't have an accident which puts you in hospital for 6 months.

Best to check with the British embassy in Canada or a repitable travel agent (good luck finding one)
