If you're travelling over from Britain, yes you can, but be aware that although the authorities don't require photographic ID, many airlines do. Ryanair in particular are very picky and you can only show them a passport or current driving license as proof of identification to get a boarding pass. |

Yes. However if you are travelling by air, you will need ID which has your photo on it e.g. driving license. |

Where from? If you're travelling from the UK, yes you can travel to the Republic of Ireland without a passport at present, but this is set to change when the new "e-borders" scheme comes in. |

If you are a British or Irish citizen travelling from any part of the UK then you need to be able to provide ID on request. If you fly the airline will insist on seeing either a passport or a driver's licence with a photo, some may accept student ID but you need to ask the individual airlines.
If you are a citizen of any other country including EU member states you must present & carry a passport. If you are not a citizen of an EU member state you may also need a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland.
edit: to amend part of my answer, nationals of EU member states can in theory use their national identity documents to move within the Common Travel area between the UK & Republic of Ireland but again, if you're flying, you have to abide by the terms & conditions set down by the airline |

Why When How

ah the most common question in this section. All you had to do was search Yahoo Answers and you would have your anwer.
BY LAND -if coming from UK to ROI you do not need your passport as there is no border control. As a foreigner though you should carry I.D.
By SEA - ID is needed. passport, driving licence.
BY AIR - Most airlines want to see a Passport nowadays
Enjoy your stay! |

You can travel from the UK on a ferry without a passport, you just need valid photo ID, driving licence usually. Be careful flying from the UK, you don't ordinarily have to have a passport but if you do online check in with Ryanair you have to have a passport they don't accept any other photo ID. You only find this out after you book your tickets as my friend found to her cost and had to pay the extra to book in a the desk as she only had a drivers licence. |

It would help if you said where you are travelling from?
If the UK (just a guess) then check with your airline, however, the agreement to allow travel between the 2 countries without a passport is ending soon, so bring your passport to be on the safe side |

Whilst UK citizens do not require a passport or visa to enter Ireland, most carriers by air or sea now require some form of identification with photograph, usually a passport or driving licence with photo. Visitors should check what form of ID is required with the individual airline, ferry company or travel agent before travelling. |
