Can a TV purchased in the USA operate in Ireland?

Show all answers

soren
pretty sure they have TVs in ireland too

(edit)
sorry. appears from the thumbs down that they do not yet have TVs in ireland.

Angela D
TV's from the US use the NTSC system...European TV's use PAL and these are different systems.

Also bear in mind both the mains voltage and frequency might be different in Ireland than to the US.....it certainly is here in England where I now live.

mo the man
no buy one when you get there

oldsoulchild
it would have to be pal/ntsc and youll have to buy a transformer

alienaviator
It'll operate but all you'll see is snow - you wont see a picture or hear any sound.

The USA uses the NTSC system. Ireland, like most of Europe, uses the far superior PAL system. Both systems use completely different signals, so your USA NTSC TV wont be able to read the Irish PAL signal.
