Is this a different Ireland than the one I live in that you're spouting about?
Ireland is a full member of the European Union AND uses the Euro currency which Britain does not use. No connection whatsoever to Britain.
And yes, we use the same plugs, 13 amp, 3 square pins.

It will work fine here. I have relations in London England who have a holiday home here in Co Dongal in the republic of Ireland. They bring a portable TV with them when they come a few times a year and it works find. My sister won a television in a competition she entered into in Take A Break magazine. The television came from the UK and it works fine here also. Good Luck. |

It depends.
An English TV is unlikely to have VHF in addition to UHF so
(a) It wont work with most analogue cable TV providers
(b) will not receive RTE 1 and 2 (via aerial) in many (mainly rural) areas of the country.
Digital Cable needs only SCART or UHF. Analog cable maybe be phased out.
A cheap VHS as a VHF tuner via SCART or UHF is now cheaper than a VHF-->UHF convertor. Under 50 Euro
Really you need to check your TV's tuner. Also some new UK models have Digital receiver (& anlogue) and the Irish model does not! So in such a case the UK model may be preferable!
Summary:
If you plan on using the TV to pick up analog signals (terrestrial tv using an aerial) it's unlikely it will work, if you plan on using it for digital tv and the tv has a scart it should work. |

No, because televisions in Ireland have special plugs, shaped like pints of guinness. And forget about the remote control, REAL Irish people have a small leprechaun in their house who hops over to the TV and changes the channels for them, so I'm afraid that probably won't be compatible with your English TV.

well the only obstacle I would think you would come accross is the plug.
If they have the european plug with two pins over in Ireland then you can buy an adaptor which would convert the plug for you. |
