Can a tv made for the uk pick up irish channels, when in ireland? |
I have just moved to ireland and i took my big TV with me. When i got here all i was able to receive was 4 channels. BBC1, BBC2, ITV3 and Sky news, I know more channels are available as there are not only the 4 Irish channels missing but a whole heep of uk ones too.
I am in the republic of ireland (cork) and am wondering if it is worth getting a new TV or if there is some way to get it to receive the full range. Is this possible? Additional Details RE: Lilybelle
From viewing other TV's in ireland, MOST of the channels are UK channels that you have imported. The BBC, ITV, SKY, etc. Thats why all the adverts on those channels have prices in Pounds not euros. |

It's been possible to get BBC, ITV and other British channels in the East of Ireland for years. You should also be able to get RTE, why don't you contact a specialist to help you out. |

We dont make tellies here. So we're all getting our channels on imported TVs (mostly shipped here by Dixons, Curries, Argos and other such UK companies)
Buy it. Plug it in. bring up the scanning/programming menu and press go. the tele does the rest. you will get all the standard channels no probs in Cork. Will need a Digibox for the specials (gardening channel etc) |

It's nothing to do with the TV- that is stupid logic now isn't it! You just have to program in the channels- read the booklet that came with your TV and you should get it!
Orla C- We could get English channels in the West as well! |

Hey buddy,
Don't matter where the tv is from, if you have an outdoor aerial you can pick up Rte 1, Rte 2, Tv3, TG4, and BBC 1, BBC 2, Channel 4 and UTV. These are the only english channels available without a sky box.
If you only have an indoor aerial you'll only be able to receive the irish channels. (RTE 1, 2, TV3 & TG4) You can do that with a hanger !! lol
Just press search/scan on the remote and they will come up.
Yep, sky is in english pounds coz it's an english company.
Don't buy a new tv !!! They are too expensive here anyway !! |

Being in the ROI, you are no longer in the United Kingdom, so why would you receive our TV? Did you ever receive French channels when you lived in the UK?
The TV does not receive the channels, it is the aerial/cable/sattelite dish you use. Try rescanning for channels and you should get the ROI ones. But as for the UK ones, you'll probably have to watch online. |

Only if you have a special potato antennae or a bono rod. Sometimes pressing the edge on your remote control works, but only if you're in Dublin.
Oh, & have you tried the elvis costello button (or the declan mcmanus button if you have an older tv). |
