There's not very many of them at primary school level. The loreto schools are the only all girls school that i can think of. And i know they are really hard to get into. People have their kids name down on waiting lists the day the child is born. There was talk about only accepting names a few months before the school term started, i know of a school that did this and there was uproar over it. All the parents camped out the front of the school some for 3 days to get their daughter a place. Will be interesting to see what they do this year. Unlike england there is no actual catchment area rule to the schools. Before i moved closer cause the drive was a nightmare twice a day i lived 20km away from where my children went to school. Coming from england myself and thinking there was a catchment area rule i phoned up the department of education and was told there's no such thing. As long as there is a place available it doesn't matter where you live. Not sure thats such a good idea as i know of a family that used to live in tallagh ( way on the southside) and moved to balbriggan ( way on the northside) there wasn't a single place available in any school in balbriggan or surrounding areas. So untill a place did become available he drove his kids to tallagh every day. The schools over here have no testing for primary school children so there's no real way of knowing which schools are rated top. But to get a list of all the girls primary schools in dublin visit the department of education, or you can phone them.

EDIT: you cant actually search by the whole of dublin of for an all girls school. there are 5 different area's of dublin that you have to search seperatly. And although you cant search for just the girls school when you search it will give details of how many females and how many males are attending the schools this current year. It make take a while but the only thing you can do is go throught the whole list and find the schools where there's a 0 beside the male attendence. The link is http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?pcategory=10917&ecategory=12016&language=EN

Hoped this helped. And yes i have a lot of time on my hands, it's 05.30am and i cant sleep and very bored!!

Primary schools in Ireland arent rated. They're all the same standard. Secondary schools are rated by things like how many students go on to college. But with primary schools students just go to the one that they live in the catchment area of.

There is no such thing as a school that is better than another.

Any teacher will tell you the difference is in the home. Students succeed or fail depending on their parents and the home atmosphere and attitude to education and work. A well-motivated, positive, well-supported child will do well anywhere.

Send your child to the local school, wherever that is.
